Part of the Boundaries series, a series of mixed-media paintings exploring the mental health effects of different aspects of culture and society on women. 'Shame' addresses the vulnerability of how our bodies, our menstruation, and our sexuality are both fetishized and scorned. They can be used as weapons against us as things we should be embarrassed about, even punished for, and are yet desired or expected. Yet vulnerability is beautiful, and can become our strength.
The snake can either be seen as a predator that creates this dynamic, or as the protective strength that embraces us as we claim our own narratives and bodies.
